Chameleon
The car was bought as a bit of scrap, andwith loads of patience & adoration, was
brought to the current state that we see
it in now.
G60 Quickie
There are still a few guys out there thatappreciate what many to believe was
the best handling golf ever made, the
Mk2 GTi.
Mk5 Gti
With a nip here and tuck there, our manShaun has made sure that his Mark 5 GTi
looks, in his words: “The tits”.
Red Ridin' hood
We wanted to find ourselves a passionateDub supporter, somebody who worships
the make and knows how to get them
looking just right. His name is Julian
and his car is a cool GTi.

Editor's letter
Welcome to the first edition ofVDUB, a publication specially
conjured up for the true South
African Volkswagen performance
enthusiast. The only thing you’ll
find in these pages is anything
that has four wheels and carries a
blue and white Volkswagen
badge. The reason behind the idea
was based solely on our publisher
who, being a hardcore veedub fan
herself, could never catch up on
news and automotive trends on the
South African
Volkswagen aftermarket tuning
industry. She planted a tiny VDUB
seed in everyone’s head and today
you’re holding, what I think, is
something quite special. Featured
in issue one are prime VDUB
examples. Proudly SA. The Mk1
category is taken up by Amid and
his chameleon-inspired spray
job project, and please believe me
when I say there are a lot more of
these hiding in and around Lens.
The next few issues of VDUB will
bear testament to
this.
We also found a
neat Mk2 jumbo filled
with something a bit different, a
G60 supercharger. Owner Morne is a
dedicated enthusiast and
his attention to detail is unique -
the engine bay alone is proof. Also
in the equation is the VW Club’s
Shaun and his BBS-equipped Mk5
GTi. The car has seen some
extensive Revo work done to the
computer box as well as some
rather pricey suspension work. I
personally think all Mk5’s should
look like this.
Ending
off is our cover car, the “Red
Ridin’ Hood”, a prime example
of a Euro-looking Mk1 with a four
cylinder turbo lump built by
Dubworx. It’s looks the part and
leaves long skid marks, both on the
road and on the passenger seat. We
also have a one-on-one with Clive
Naidu as well as a look into what
happened at the recent VW Club dyno
day at K.A.R. Motorsport. Please do
not hesitate in sending
us suggestions on how to improve
VDUB. I know for a fact many will
be asking for the usual
technical articles as well as some
track features. Luckily for us, the
track side of things is sorted with
“Big Willy” (don’t ask)
providing monthly reports regarding
this years GTi Challenge. A
hearty welcome goes out to Stuart
Mack who will keep us up to date
with the Volkswagen Challenge
for 2007.
I’m also
inviting anyone who’d like
to contribute their DIY conversions
to VDUB for publishing. Take for
example this months DubMod article
from the father and son team
of Pine and Jaco Pienaar, who
fitted a VR6 brake system to a Mk1
Golf. Email me all your
suggestions and queries to
info@vdubmagazine.co.za and we’ll
get the ball rolling. Thanks to the
Volkswagen Club of South Africa for
their support, as well as to you,
our reader, for supporting and
buying the first edition of VDUB.
It may be the colossus of other
motoring publications, but damn
we’re gonna give it a good
shot.
Till next month, keep
on VDUBb’in! - Joel
